Pepe's New Home!

Every once in a while, Walkstar is called upon to help a family with a rehabilitation, care for a foster pet, or to assist in an adoption process. Pepe has one of those stories. A street pup who needed a lot of love and severe medical attention (including multiple surgeries) Pepe was lucky to cross paths with one of San Juan's most caring residents!

After the long rehabilitation process, during which Walkstar was happy to walk and help care for him, Pepe was flown to Massachusettes to join the wonderful people at Buddy's Humane Society in Sudbury, MA to start the search for a forever home. Even with the wonderful reports and great reputation of Buddy's, and knowing Pepe's glowing personality, we couldn't help but cry a little during good-bye and hope that he doesn't spend too much time in the shelter.

Well, our hopes were answered when Pepe was adopted within one month of his arrival! I know a very lucky family has a new member! Our hearts go out to Pepe and we wish him all of the best in his new life!

What is Your Pet Telling You?

There are a million ways our little ones express themselves to us every day. Sure they don't speak our language, but with the right education, we can read their body language as well as they hear our words.

Did you know that DOGS will::

* Widen their eyes if they feel threatened
* "Smile" as a sign of submission
* Pull their ears up if they are feeling friendly
* Smaller themselves and/or hide their tail if they feel scared
* bow towards the floor or swing their hips when they want to PLAY!

Did you know that CATS will::

* Blink their eyes rapidly to show trust
* Let their tail fall if they are unhappy or feel sick
* Flick the top of their taiols fo they sense danger
* Twitch their ears of they feel annoyed or agitated
* Knead with their paws to show they are happy

There is much to be learned from your furry friends, and a lot of your pet's mannerisms can be learned by observation. Take some time to watch your pet, especially thir little movements & facial gestures. See how they interact with other pets and humans, and how their body language changes. Posture and tail movements can tell a lot about your pet's general mood, while face and ear movements can fine tune  what they are thinking!

Biodegradable Pick Up Bags!

The Elimination of the Pit Bull Ban in PR has been Approved!!

According to Ivelisse Rivera Quinones' article in today's Primera Hora newspaper, the Department of Agriculture's agronomist, Carmen Oliver, spoke negatively on the topic of breed specific legislation (BSL) here in Puerto Rico.

Dr. Ernesto Casta, the president of the College of Veterinarians, also had kind words for the specific breed, and reminded all that any size or race of dog has the possibility to be dangerous if maltreated.
